Ministry of Health in search of an Ideal Logo for Recyclable Bags

16th March 2016

The Ministry Health and the Environment in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Commerce are in search of the ideal Logo to be placed on the recyclable shopping bags which will soon replace the T-shirt plastic bags that will be phased out later this year.

In this regard, the Ministries have mounted a Schools` Logo competition which targets Third to Fifth form students from government and private secondary schools in Antigua and Barbuda to come up with the top design that will be placed on the Environmentally-Friendly Shopping Bags

The National Garment Manufacturing Initiative is playing a key role in the production of these bags which have already begun to penetrate the local market as the business sector readies itself for the inevitable transition.

It has been confirmed that all secondary schools have received notification on this initiative and the Steering Committee is encouraging Art students to put their skills to the test.

'It's a competition that will not only develop your skills and civic pride but it will also boost interest among your peers on the importance of having a cleaner and greener nation", Committee Chairman Clarence Pilgrim remarked.

The theme of the competition is "Eco-friendly products are good business!"

Prizes for the best entries will be provided by the Chinese Embassy and the Minister of Trade, Industry and Commerce.

The best ten entries will be selected by a pool of judges and the winner will receive a Lap Top and a monetary prize.

The other top participants and their schools will also be awarded and recognized.

The Logo should reflect and embody the character of Antigua and Barbuda and the design should depict what a "Green" Antigua and Barbuda means to the students.

The design which should be easily replicated, on green fabric, should be accompanied by a brief description of representation (in 150 words or less).

Submission of the Logo must be hard copy (paper) no larger than Letter size (8 ½ - 11 ½).

A grand prize-giving ceremony will be held on April 4th to officially award top participants of the Logo Competition.
