Schools Logo Competition Deadline Extended

11th April 2016

All Secondary School students participating in the Logo Competition organized by the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Ministry Health and the Environment are being reminded that the deadline for submission of their Logo has now been extended.

At a recent meeting of the Logo Competition Steering Committee a decision was taken to extend the deadline to 29th April.

This will give students more time to work on their submissions and for pieces already submitted to be fine-tuned if necessary, as they make a valid contribution to the ongoing campaign of keeping Antigua and Barbuda clean and green.

The committee said that the competition is now open to all secondary school students and not just third to fifth formers.

The Schools` Logo competition has been mounted to choose the best Logo that will be placed on the Environmentally Friendly Shopping Bags which will replace the T-shirt plastic bags that will be phased out in a few months.

Although the Steering Committee has already begun to receive entries, they are appealing to more students from forms one to five to take part.

Committee Chairman Clarence Pilgrim said the entries received so far have shown that the youths have recognized the importance of good environmental health practices.

The theme of the competition is "Eco-friendly products are good business!"

Prizes for the best entries will be provided by the Chinese Embassy and the Minister of Trade, Industry and Commerce.

The best ten entries will be selected and the overall winner will receive a Lap Top and a monetary prize. The other participants and their schools will also be awarded and recognized.

The Logo should reflect and embody the character of Antigua and Barbuda and the design should depict what a "Green" Antigua and Barbuda means to the students.

The design which should be easily replicated, on green fabric, should be accompanied by a brief description of representation in 150 words or less.

Submission of the Logo must be hard copy (paper) no larger than Letter size (8 ½ - 11 ½).
