Statement on Dr. Caron Weston's Passing

13th May 2016

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is deeply

saddened by the passing of Dr Caron Weston. This stalwart teacher of Mathematics, Department Head, Deputy Principal and Education Officer became nationally known through the local television programme Mastering Mathematics.

For a lifetime, Dr Weston employed her gifts and abilities, liberally, in the service of country, leaving indelible footprints on the education landscape of Antigua and Barbuda. She possessed an unbridled and extraordinary quantity of energy which was emblazoned on her work at every stage of her career.

Carl Jung reminds: "One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child."

Dr Weston, as a Mathematics teacher, imparted with fervour. However, one of her most important attributes was the love and understanding she demonstrated in attending to the nurture of her students.

She was always willing to listen and to help. She never veered from the course of candour merely to be politically correct and she owned a wonderful sense of humour.

She always demonstrated profound loyalty to the vision and mission of the schools to which she was assigned and subsequently to the Ministry of Education where she last worked.

By any measure, the influence Dr. Weston's contribution to the education landscape of this nation has been significant. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology salutes this fallen educator for service and prays that perpetual light may shine on her.
